When it comes to alcohol men and women are obviously at a disadvantage, and no legislation can equalize their rights in this matter. For health and safety, it is important for women to remember about this inequality and act accordingly.
A common myth that men and women of the same height and weight experience the same effects from consuming identical amounts of alcohol, is completely wrong.

Women are affected by alcohol faster because they have a higher proportion of fat than men. Since fat cannot absorb alcohol it is concentrated in the blood at a higher level. Women also have less of a gastric enzyme that decomposes and breaks down the alcohol before it enters the bloodstream. Because of this, women have 30% more absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream than men of the same height and weight who drink the same amount of alcohol. Women are usually quicker and easier the alcohol concentration in the blood than men. Therefore, when women of average weight consumes one drink, it will have almost the same effect as for average weight men two drinks. If women eat little or no eating, it compounds the effects of alcohol. Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle can also badly influence the metabolism of alcohol, increasing its effects.


The point is, the woman who hopes to "fend for themselves" in competition with a man, puts himself at risk.

There are many things that men and women can do to avoid problems with alcohol: 

Know and respect your limit. If You are not sure, experiment at home with your spouse, or a friend, drinking one drink per hour without ill effect. 

Eat while you drink. Foods especially high in protein, such as meat, cheese or nuts, to help slow down the absorption of alcohol into your body.

Drink slowly. When you swallow in one gulp, you lose the pleasure of flavor and taste.Do not participate in competitions or other alcoholic games.

Drink alcohol only when you really want it. If someone tries to force you to drink, ask for a soft drink instead. If that doesn't work, "lose" your drink by leaving it somewhere.

Skip from time to time, drinking alcohol or soft drink use. Use regular drinks – this will help contain the concentration of alcohol in your blood, so make the interval between alcoholic drinks.

Be proactive; do not just sit and drink. If you stay active you tend to drink less alcohol.

Beware of unfamiliar drinks. Some drinks, such as smoothies and other fruit drinks, can be deceiving as the alcohol content in them is not so easy to detect. Therefore, it is difficult to space them properly.

Use alcohol cautiously with various pharmaceutical drugs. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about any precautions or prohibitions and follow the advice.

The good news is that, contrary to common myth, alcohol is not fattening and research has demonstrated that for many women, drinking leads to slight weight loss
